NLP is described by Joseph O’Connor and John Seymour (2002) as ‘the art and science of personal excellence’, they write that it offers ‘extremely effective techniques for education, counselling, business and therapy’.

The Association for NLP, (2025) offer the following definition of NLP practice.

“NLP combines theories, models and techniques from a range of scientific and esoteric fields, to create accessible, understandable ‘tools’ which can be used by individuals, teams and organisations and applied in a variety of contexts to improve outcomes, support wellbeing and create change

Whilst NLP may be offered as a coaching approach depending upon the needs of the client, the powerful techniques it provides can also be used to help with specific client issues such as:

  • Anxiety, phobias and fears
  • Weight loss
  • Confidence and self-esteem
  • Exam and test fears
  • Pain management
  • Public speaking nerves
  • Motivation
  • Smoking cessation

I would like to thank you for helping me improve my eating habits, I am now eating much more healthily, very few snack products and not gorging on very large portions. I also feel much more relaxed and the main thing is I feel in control of the eating as with your help I was able to uncover what the issues were and why I was behaving in the way that I was. I wasn't sure what to expect but I felt completely safe with you, and the process was amazing, particularly the 'feeling full' control you gave me, unbelieveable! I loved the relaxation techniques and the relaxed feeling they gave me. I will most certainly be recommending you to my friends and any others I know who would benefit from your brilliant interventions.

I would like to thank you for helping me improve my anxiety issues. I now feel far more confident in everyday situations that used to give me palpitations, simply by using the techniques you gave me. I also benefit from feeling much more relaxed in general and able to deal with the anxiety in a ‘healthy’ way rather than letting it overcome me, as I have in the past. As you know I have been suffering with anxiety for over 15 years and it is a wonderful feeling to have some level of control over it now. Previously, I have been reliant on anti-depressants and sedatives such as diazepam to control the anxiety, but that has done nothing to address the issues or give me a long term solutions. Initially, I was unsure as to what to expect from the sessions and although I felt comfortable in your presence, suffered my usual anxiety over what the sessions would entail and the level in which It would benefit me. Even after the initial session, my level of anxiety had decreased and over the further sessions, the techniques you gave me such as the shrinking and general relaxation, gave me the tools to equip me going forward and help me each and every day. I am now not on either the anti-depressants nor taking diazepam and after 11 years of being married, expecting my first child and overjoyed that I don’t have to worry about any adverse effects the drugs could have on my growing baby!

I would certainly have no hesitations in recommending you to others.

Thank you!

Mrs LM

I would like to thank you for the help you gave me in my quest to stop smoking. I had tried to stop smoking in the past and had managed to go for a couple of months but the desire to smoke was always at the back of my mind, even though my father had died of a smoking related illness. Last year I had given up for a while but when I went back to it actually smoked more than before.

I decided to give it another try and when I spoke to you on the telephone had gone about a week without a cigarette. The visualisation therapy done over the phone by you during that conversation changed my attitude and I feel I will not smoke again.

The reason I feel that what you did made the difference is this; on previous attempts I felt like a smoker who just wasn't smoking for the time being. I used to demand that no-one smoke near me and complain about the smell of smoke on people's clothing etc. but I secretly wished I was smoking.

This time, since the telephone conversation, my perception of smoking has altered. I feel as if I have never smoked, I don't crave for a cigarrete and my attitude to people who do smoke is very relaxed, I am not like a 'reformed smoker'.
I don't want a cigarette because I feel like I have never had a cigarette. I just feel totally different about it. It is quite hard to describe but it has now been four months since I smoked and I think that this time I will never smoke again.

Once again, many thanks

SM
